Rwanda Gorilla Trekking & Nyiragongo Hike

An exclusive vacation to Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo is 5 Days Volcanoes Gorilla Trekking & Nyiragongo Hike. This itinerary will enable you to see the main sights in the area. Any time of the year is a good time to reserve this package. You will go to Volcanoes National Park to see a mountain gorilla family and trek up the largest lava lake in the world at Virunga National Park.

Day 1: Pick up Kigali & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Take an early-morning flight to Rwanda and arrive at the airport in Kigali in time to begin your five-day tour. Your driver guide will greet you, give you a briefing on what to expect and what is expected of you, and then head out on a city tour of Kigali, stopping at a memorial site for the genocide and a market where you may mingle with the locals. After lunch, continue on to the Volcanoes National Park where you will check into your lodging, have dinner, and spend the night in the mountain gorillas’ habitat.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in the Volcanoes National Park

You will awake on this memorable day eager to view the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Breakfast early, then travel to the park headquarters to listen to the park rangers’ pre-trek briefing before beginning your trip into the bush to find the mountain gorillas where the trackers last saw them. After 2 to 5 hours of trekking, when you finally meet them, you can spend an hour watching them go about their daily lives while taking as many candid images as you can without using a flash.
Make your way back to your lodging to rest, have lunch, and reflect on the experience. Alternatively, choose to go on a community or cultural visit to meet the locals. Return to your hotel before it gets dark, enjoy a leisurely meal, and then call it a night at your lodging for that day.

Day 3: Transfer to Gisenyi

Take your final breakfast in the lodge, check out of your lodging, and drive to Gisenyi for lunch on the banks of Lake Kivu. If you want to experience the breeze and the sights that side of Rwanda has to offer, you can take a boat tour on the lake. In preparation for your next day’s hike, link to cross into the DR Congo later in the afternoon.

Day 4: Mount Nyiragongo Hike

You’ll be climbing this peak today. Get up early, eat breakfast, and head to the Grande Barrier border to meet up with the Virunga tourism office and register for your 2-day trek permit. Travel to the Bukima ranger station, where the hike will begin. For this hike, you can hire a porter if you need one and other supplies. A six-hour ascent with two rest stops will bring you to the summit in time for the evening’s stunning sights. You can prepare your dinner while seeing Mount Nyiragongo’s active lava flow and, on clear nights, the lights of Goma city visible in the distance. Stay up there all night.

Day 5: Descend Mount Nyiragongo

Get up early to observe dawn breaking from the volcano’s summit. Enjoy your final moments atop the mountain while eating a straightforward “Congo” breakfast before beginning the four to five-hour descent. By noon, when you return to the trailhead, you will meet your driver and be transferred back to Goma, where you can check out and pick up your visa for Rwanda. From there, you will continue on to Kigali, where your trip will come to an end with either an airport drop-off or a drop-off at your hotel in Kigali, depending on what you decide. This will be the  Last Day of the 5-Day Nyiragongo Hike & Rwanda Gorilla Trek
